Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who led the team to the Super Bowl last season, underwent an appendectomy on Tuesday.
Burrow is expected to miss a couple of weeks of training camp, which opened Wednesday in Cincinnati.
Coach Zac Taylor said the team had not set a firm date for Burrow’s return.
Taylor told ESPN the good news is that Burrow knows the Bengals’ system.
“He won’t be behind the eight ball,’’ Taylor said.

Burrow’s Super Season
After being sidelined during the 2020 season with a torn ACL in his left knee, Burrow returned last season to help the team capture the AFC title, earning a spot in the Super Bowl. The Bengals lost that game to the NFC champion Los Angeles Rams, 23-20.
The Super Bowl capped a 2021 season that saw Burrow throw for 4,611 yards, including 34 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
One of his favorite targets, returning wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, caught 13 touchdown passes. Burrow and Chase were teammates during LSU’s undefeated 2019 national title season, resulting in a Heisman Trophy for Burrow.
